North Woolwich Local Champions - Job Description
We’re Looking for 4 North Woolwich Local Champions!
Do you live or work in North Woolwich and want to help shape its future?
London Borough of Newham want your help to create a vision for North Woolwich that will identify spaces for physical change and possible activities that will benefit the local community. We are looking for four North Woolwich residents to become Local Champions - friendly faces who’ll help connect neighbours, share ideas to shape a vision for North Woolwich while working with our support on immediate ideas to make this vision real.
Pay and hours:
£14.80 an hour*
Up to 40 hours of paid work
Between November 2025 – March 2026
Meeting times will be agreed within the group**
Location will be in North Woolwich
*London Living Wage
**Specific times and dates will be agreed amongst the 4 successful local champions
Support:
You will be supported by make:good (the Engagement Team) with workshops, regular
catch-ups, and all the materials you need. The 40 hours will include:
7 x 2 hour workshops to develop and plan real ideas to support the vision
Attend 3 community workshops
Work independently between sessions
What you'll do:
As a Local Champion, you’ll be supporting the project and we’ll be asking you to:
1. Spread the word!
Help share information about local engagement events and activities.
Use your local networks - friends, schools, community groups, places of worship - to make sure everyone knows what’s happening and has a chance to get involved.
2. Lend a hand at community events
Support the Engagement Team, make:good, during pop-ups, meetings and workshops in North Woolwich.
3. Come up with creative ideas for local spaces (new and existing)
Work with make:good to come up with simple, low-cost ways to test your ideas for change — this could include ways to use empty or underused spaces for the community in and around North Woolwich
Think about what could work now, in the next few months, and in the longer term.
4. Help plan and cost the ideas
With support from make:good, put together basic budgets, project plans and possible timelines for these ideas.
Share your local knowledge about what’s realistic, what’s needed, and who could help.
Your journey as a Local Champion:
Stage 1 – November 2025: Meet the make:good engagement team and other champions.
Get training and start collecting ideas.
Stage 2 – December 2025 – January 2026: Plan small test projects, and simple budgets.

Stage 3 - February 2026: Share your project ideas with the community and get feedback.
Stage 4 – March 2026: Reflect on what worked well and plan next steps.
Who we’re looking for:
You don’t need any formal qualifications — just passion for your area and willingness to get
involved. We’d love to hear from you if you:
Live in or have strong ties to North Woolwich
Enjoy meeting people and working with others
Know what’s happening locally and want to make things better
Can help out at events and meetings (some evenings or weekends)
Are open-minded, friendly, and full of ideas
Interested in learning how to create a project plan and budget
