Dreamstate
February - August 2025
Every few years we’ve been lucky enough to work with children’s writing charity Ministry of Stories on some truly wild and wonderful projects. Dreamstate, which took place over summer 2025 might just be the most ambitious project we’ve taken on to date!

About the project
We were tasked with transforming the basement of Shoreditch Town Hall (aka ‘The Ditch’) into 8 immersive spaces inspired by the writing and imagination of 112 local young people - all focusing on the theme of dreams. The rooms included writings on nostalgia and fright, a relaxation room to hear lullabies written for adults, a Botanist’s lab, a YAY room, a feast, and a room to write dreams for the future.
Led by the imaginations by the 6-16 year old writers, our first task was to design a visual identity for each individual space, followed by a plan for the props to make/source and dressing needed to transform the room. From making fluffy light-up clouds, giant monster plants, a pneumatic dream machine, a polka dot leopard, and a miniature coffin for a slug funeral, to hanging hundreds of dreams on labels from the ceiling, it was no small task! But team m:g love a challenge and we are really proud of what we managed to create in Dreamstate.
The full week of Dreamstate was sold out before it had even opened, and when more tickets were released, they sold out too - over 1,400 people came to Shoreditch Town Hall to experience it!
