Grow Box

In March 2024, we were invited to take on a community space in Canning Town, which includes the potential for outdoor space and a portacabin for indoor activities. This is a space full of potential, and in the spirit of it being a site for growing skills, businesses, and relationships, the community chose to name it Grow Box. With decking, planters, shelter, and an outdoor table, the outside space is being cared for by a local resident who plans to plant, grow, farm, and serve produce through a programme called Soil, Seed, Plate. Through extensive engagement and outreach, we recruited local people to set up and run activities in the space as part of a peer-to-peer support network. As the project develops, the aim is to grow skills and build the community’s capacity to support itself and thrive.
